Sequencing the Sequences
So, for those who are not aware. Writing is hard. Like, seriously. Well, actually, no. Doing the writing is the easy part. Planning things out, and writing things out is the challenge.
I was hoping to do a post a week/a month but that's a struggle with my other hobbies and the inevitable burn out from life over all. However if I want to stick to this goal of posting frequently I need to diversify my content or distill what I plan to write. I'm currently planning out my 35 Scenes and I've probably got about 10-15 at most. So that's 20 blank scenes left to write. I may even break it down a bit to make it easier.
But for now, we'll go with the sequences that have roughly been outlined. So please see below for a very rough over view of the story/sequences. This is as raw as it'll get, unpolished, and quite short & sweet.
The ordinary world: The hero is introduced in his/her normal, everyday situation. We see the protagonist at work, at play, with family, with friends. It’s real life, before the adventure begins.
Svala running across the roof tops, delivering the letter, interacting with friends.
The call to adventure: This is where the problem or challenge is first introduced.
Svala accused of murder, taken to prison, and then broken out of jail after meeting ghalmeer.
Refusal of the call: The hero isn’t interested in the challenge because of fear or maybe laziness, or any reason — maybe they have better things to do.
Svala given the option of joining the rebels or escaping.
Meeting the mentor: The hero comes across someone who gives them advice. Or it may be a “something”, like a letter or memento that makes them change their mind about the challenge.
She chooses to flee the city, as she's escaping the city she sees bird catchers abusing someone she cares about, she intervenes.
Crossing the first threshold: The hero takes on the challenge. He/she exits their “ordinary world” and enters a “special world” — the world of adventure.
Svala agrees to join the rebels, she trains with them to become a fighter, practicing archery and using small knives
Tests, allies, enemies: Your protagonist is going to face tests, forge friendships and animosities.
Svala and the rebels form a bond, they start to ask her advice & Guidance.
Approach: With new friends in tow, the hero prepares for a major challenge.
They're going to infiltrate a grand ball and steal some information from Ghalmeers study.
Ordeal: Approaching what we referred to as the “midpoint” earlier, the hero faces a huge hurdle, a significant challenge, coming face to face with the antagonist for the first time.
In Ghalmeers study they struggle and he blows her out of the window using magic.
Reward: The hero survives — but only just. It’s time to head back to the real world and safety.
Despite their earlier encounter Svala is saved by Sabine.
The road back: Returning home with the treasure (this can be physical, or it can be knowledge or information of some sort), the hero is sometimes pursued, here, by the antagonist.
She has the book that she was given to deliver way back when. They discover about various Elven lore. Svala also discovered the plan to kill the crown prince.
Resurrection: This is the climax of your story, and the hero is tested again. Everything comes to a head. Hero defeats villain. Detective nails killer. Boy gets… you get the drift by now.
Svala realises that Ghalmeer is a half elf, she goes to stop the assassins as she runs on the roof top of the church, she bursts through a window by swinging onto a rope she knocks down the crown prince, arrows thud into the chair behind where the crown prince was standing. There's a huge commotion as the guards rush around her and pull her off the prince he tells them to let go of her and she explains why she tackled him. The assassins have already been apprehended and she explains how they were under the control of the spell
Return with the elixir: The hero’s back in his/her “ordinary world” again. But they’ve changed — they have a new knowledge that they can use for good… or bad, of course, depending on how your story goes.
Svala is on the roof tops again, the sun is setting, she is running towards the town square where a decree is being announced about Elves no longer being classed as Slaves and will be from this day forth free.
