The Witcher Jedi

While doing some planning for my story, I wanted to include some magically enhanced warriors. Something like Witchers, but not quite as "magical". Mine would in fact be cut off from doing magic, as part of their enhancement process. This would be because they would be witch hunters, it feels like whatever idea you come up with it has already been done.

I mean for example I had the idea of my magic order of knights to be imbued with enhanced strength, senses, and speed. Nothing extra-ordinary really, but the Witchers already have this. So, should I still use the idea? Why not. I mean in Mistborn the Inquisitors were also enhanced warriors who would act on the Lord Rulers behalf.

Where I think the idea would fall flat would be to not spice it up a bit. I mean let’s take my order that I shall refer to only as The Order from now on. What makes them different from the Templars in Dragon Age origins? Or Paladins in many RPGs? Why do they even exist in the first place? How do they operate? What authority do they have? I think with these questions The Order can be structured accordingly.

In my story magic is still a dangerous and powerful thing and because of this those who can do it must be kept in line to prevent them becoming the worst of the worst, magic is power, and power corrupts after all. Now at the start of our story the only ones who can do magic are humans. That is not to say that there are no other races I will introduce down the line who can do magic and that's not to say that there are not magical creatures out there as I am partial to a hippogryph or basilisk. But nevertheless, we move forward.

We now have the reason for The Order to exist I think it needs some meat on the bones, for example how do they operate? I think there will be two answers to this, I think The Order will operate under the jurisdiction of the crown because my medieval kingdom will operate under a monarchy, but secondly I think for the most part they will operate under impunity for the most part, this will lead them open to corruption but at the same time enables them to act in a far greater capacity to prevent magical threats from being...threatening. I have already had a character in mind who will feature from the order, they were inspired by this post but to not give too much away I think I will end this bit here and move onto the original point behind this post.

I titled this post "The Witcher Jedi" because I am an avid Star Wars fan to the point that I own all of the movies, have most of the video games, and even sit in a few discord servers to discuss the movies. I'm also a huge fan of the Jedi Order and what it represents. For the longest time I kept thinking to myself I wish there was a way to create a Jedi Order within my own high-fantasy story, and then I realised The Witchers kind of serve that purpose I mean look at the parallels for one.

  • Both orders take young children and train them.
  • Both must face a trial of sorts.
  • Both serve a cause greater than themselves.
  • Both wander the known territory.
  • Both have mystical abilities that they must learn to use.
  • Both have mystical weaponry. (Lightsabers Vs Silver/Steel swords)

So, with that in mind, I think I will be fine creating my order of magically enhanced warriors so long as I don't try to give them cats eyes and make them reside in Kaer Morhen. I'm interested to see just how far I get with this whole project, though I admit I am facing challenges in thinking or planning the story. But that's the beauty of it, we have a problem, we find a solution.
