Which Witch?
Every protagonist needs a best friend, right? Well, meet the currently named Morwenna Sifreig. The name is not likely to stick, but it sounds good right now. I wanted something that sounded different to the normal names I'll be using and when you're planning a placeholder name is easier to work with than just writing PROTAGONISTBESTIE so far.
One thing is that I know who this witch is though, her name and ultimately her visuals can come later. It is almost amusing though because she will be to some degree a stereotype or cliche, if you can't tell by my last post I'm a fan of The Witcher and so you can already guess that I'm going to be inspired by Yennefer but who wouldn't be inspired by such a bad ass? But that's not where the line is drawn.
You see, instead of creating a clone of Yennefer I am genuinely inspired by her. More so her pragmatic attitude and I kind of want that personality trait to be there to balance out Svala's lack of confidence. I plan their relationship to be almost like Svala helps humanise and bring out the softer side of Morwenna and in turn Morwenna gives Svala the confidence to shine in her own right. The main goal is for two very capable women to lean on each other in their own way and grow from it.
Morwenna, for the most part will be a light comedic relief and feature her own love interest. Now don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of books where the female characters are defined by their love interests so expect the romance to be taking a major backseat primarily because of the previous raised point but this also is not a romance novel.
Which is now an excellent segue onto discussing a bit about magic in my world. I've decided to definitely opt for a soft magic system, one I will probably leave pretty ambigious just because of creative freedom. But more to come soon, I just wanted to get a post out because it's been 12 days and I have been working on things, and though I'm my only subscriber (LOL) I figured I should still keep the habit of blogging.
